"Charity in Action – How Can We Help?"

Theme: Understanding charity work and making a difference locally and internationally

Duration: 60 minutes

Objectives:

  • Learn about different types of charity organizations

  • Understand how European initiatives support education and communities

  • Develop a real charity action plan as a class

 

Lesson Outline:

1. Warm-up Discussion (10 min)

  • Ask: What does "charity" mean to you?

  • Show different types of charity work:

    • Education-focused charities (e.g., Erasmus+ projects, Book Aid International)

    • Humanitarian organizations (e.g., Red Cross, Save the Children)

    • Local charities in Poland, Italy, Spain, and North Macedonia

  • Students share if they have ever participated in charity work.

 

2. Real-Life Stories & Group Work (20 min)

  • Case Studies (One per Group):

    • Poland: "Szlachetna Paczka" – A national initiative where people help families in need with education materials, food, and support.

    • Italy: "Banco Alimentare" – A charity that supports food banks, helping children and families.

    • Spain: "Educo" – An NGO that supports children's education and combats poverty.

    • N.Macedonia USAID:-Support for improvement in the schools

    • Europe-wide: Erasmus+ projects focusing on digital education for marginalized students.

 

  • Group Task:

    • Read and discuss the assigned case.

    • Answer: How does this charity help? Who benefits? How can students contribute?

    • Present findings to the class.

 

3. Charity Challenge – Planning a Real Fundraiser (20 min)

  • Brainstorming Session:

    • How can students organize a charity event in their school?

    • Discuss ideas like:

      • Clothes or book donation drive – Collect second-hand books or clothes for a charity.

      • Talent show fundraiser – Organize a school event where students perform, and donations go to a cause.

      • AI-powered awareness campaign – Use AI to create posters/videos promoting an educational charity.

      • Erasmus+ charity partnership – Work with Erasmus partner schools to organize a joint online donation campaign.

  • Action Plan Task:

    • Each group develops a mini proposal for their charity project.

    • Groups pitch their ideas, and the class votes on the best initiative to organize.

 

4. Final Reflection (10 min)

  • Discuss: Why is charity important?

  • How can Erasmus projects be a platform for supporting educational initiatives?

  • What small actions can individuals take to contribute?

 

Homework/Extended Project:

  • Individual Task: Research a charity in your country and prepare a short presentation.

  • Class Project: Implement the selected charity initiative in collaboration with Erasmus partners.​
